At Oahe Landscapes, we’re passionate about delivering expert-level landscaping and irrigation services across Rapid City, Mobridge, and the Black Hills. Our team combines decades of experience with a love for outdoor living spaces, smart water systems, and functional design. Get to know the people behind the projects:
Meet Sam – Your Rapid City Landscaping & Irrigation Expert
With over 15 years of experience in the landscaping and irrigation industry, Sam brings expert-level knowledge and passion to every project. He holds a Landscape Design degree from South Dakota State University (SDSU) and has worked across South Dakota and North Dakota, including Mitchell, Mobridge, Fargo, and now Rapid City.
Sam’s journey started with a large landscape company in Mitchell, where he gained valuable experience in both residential and commercial landscaping. He later owned and operated Oahe Landscapes in Mobridge before moving to Fargo to continue his work in the landscape field. Now based in Rapid City, he’s proud to co-found a new landscape partnership in the heart of the Black Hills.
Sam specializes in irrigation design and is known for creating efficient, customized systems for residential and commercial properties. He’s also passionate about landscape design, and nothing gets him more excited than planning a beautiful pond or waterfall feature.
Outside of work, Sam enjoys life in the Black Hills with his wife Amanda and their two daughters. He stays active through fitness, hiking, and traveling to state parks—always seeking time outdoors, just like the landscapes he loves to create.
Meet Derik – Landscape & Irrigation Specialist Serving Mobridge and Rapid City
Derik has spent the last 8 years building a strong career in the landscape and irrigation industry—and he’s found his true passion. After attending the University of South Dakota (USD) and gaining experience in various trades including auto body repair, rubber roofing, and even working in the garden department at Reptile Gardens during high school, Derik discovered landscaping was his calling.
He began working with Sam 8 years ago, quickly developing the skills and drive that led him to become a partner in Oahe Landscapes. When Sam moved to Fargo, Derik took over full ownership of the Mobridge division, where he continues to lead landscape and irrigation projects with excellence.
Derik is a certified Irrigation Contractor with the State of South Dakota, and takes pride in designing and installing efficient irrigation systems for both residential and commercial properties. He also thrives in hands-on landscaping work, especially building patios, retaining walls, and incorporating his deep love for plants into every project.
In 2023, Derik teamed up with Sam and Jade to expand the business into Rapid City, achieving a successful first year in 2024. He’s passionate about continuing to grow in the Black Hills landscaping scene.
When he’s not on the job site, Derik enjoys spending quality time with his daughter and girlfriend, Stacey. His hobbies include weightlifting, hiking, traveling, woodworking, and hunting—a true outdoorsman who brings that same energy and dedication to every landscaping project.
Meet Jade – Landscape & Irrigation Expert with a Passion for Precision
Jade is a valuable part of the team, bringing decades of experience and a strong work ethic to every project. With nearly 20 years in the electric and natural gas industry and a degree in electrical work, Jade made the leap into the landscaping and irrigation field—and quickly discovered a new passion.
Sam and Derik recognized that Jade’s incredible attention to detail, hands-on skillset, and dedication made him the perfect partner as they grew the business. His background working with piping in the gas industry made him a natural fit for underground irrigation systems, and he now excels in both irrigation installation and full-scale landscape projects across the Rapid City and Black Hills region.
Jade takes pride in seeing a landscape come to life through hard work and craftsmanship. As a proud member of the Cheyenne River Tribe, Jade brings added depth to the name Oahe—which means “foundation” or “ground to stand upon”—connecting the company’s identity to a deeper cultural meaning.
Outside of work, Jade enjoys spending time with his four children and his girlfriend Sadie. His hobbies include weightlifting, hiking, and his newest passion, rock climbing—a true outdoorsman who brings the same energy and focus to his work as he does to the mountains and trails he loves.
